Abstract

Pig crop estimates and estimates of sow farrowing intentions, released by the USDA's Statistical Reporting Service, are widely used as a basis for forecasting future hog slaughter. Pig crop estimates, along with quarterly inventory estimates, provide indications of slaughter three to six months ahead. And farrowing intentions esti mates are used as an indication of slaughter from five to twelve months in the future.
