Smooth ice, waltz-time music broadcast over the loudspeaker, a pair of newly-sharpened skates, and a bright winter day- all added up to fun on Lake LaVerne. During the evenings from eight to ten, large beacons from the top of the Memorial Union lighted the lake. A "skating lifeguard" watched out the window of the warming hut for safety purposes seven days a week.
