Abstract
A description of the ideal suture by the veterinary surgeon would include a material which has: adequate strength, ease of handling, secure knot tying characteristics, minimal tissue reactivity, easy sterilization and predictable absorbability. The search for this ideal or perfect suture material has been lengthy and only partially successful.
