Navicular disease is an osteoarthritis of the navicular bone which may begin as bursitis of the navicular bursa. This bursa lies between the deep flexor tendon and the navicular bone. The bursitis eventually leads to degenerative and erosive lesions of the fibrocartilage on the deep flexor tendon surface of the navicular bone.
