under the direction of the National Campaign Chairman, Dr. F.K. Ramsey, the Salsbury Challenge Fund has met with tremendous response. The Dr. J.E. Salsbury Foundation of Charles City established a $500,000 challenge fund in January 1976, to encourage private gifts to be used to equip and furnish the new veterinary medical facility.
In a previous article (ISU Veterinarian Vol. 38, No. 2, 1976), the environmental problems associated with keeping saltwater fish were reported. This article will deal with the diagnosis and treatment of common coral fish diseases.
Pseudorabies, also called Aujesky's Disease, Mad Itch, and Infectious Bulbar Paralysis, is a viral disease which primarily affects pigs. It occurs in a wide variety of domestic and wild animals and birds, but not in apes, reptiles, or insects. The natural viral reservoir is swine, in which it produces high mortality in suckling pigs, relatively low mortality in older pigs, and may produce carriers showing few or no symptoms.
