The Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis Editorial Board:
Application, Eligibility, and Description

Editorial Board eligibility

  • Must be a graduate student at Iowa State University with an interest in interdisciplinary social justice conversations, topics, and publications.

Editorial Board members are expected to:

  • Attend all weekly Editorial Board meetings
  • Promote the journal to expand the reach and capacity of the journal
  • Engage in various aspects of reviewing submissions
  • Recruit and select new Editorial Board members
  • Encourages prospective authors to submit manuscripts around the scope and mission of the journal
  • Reviews or finds reviewers for submissions
  • Represents the Journal at academic and professional conferences/meetings outside of the university as needed
  • Maintains and contributes to transition reports and document archives

Senior Editor:

  • Provides leadership and direction for the Editorial Board
  • Facilitates Editorial Board meetings
  • Creates agenda for all Editorial Board meetings
  • Checks JCTP email account on a regular basis and answers any inquiries
  • Reads all submitted manuscripts and consults with the Editorial Board about the quality and subject matter of the manuscripts being considered for submission
  • Works with Editorial Board to encourage submission of manuscripts from various higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, activist individuals and groups, practitioners, graduate students, junior and senior faculty, and professional associations.
  • Maintains communication with the Faculty Advisor

Editor:

  • Two-year commitment, position will transition to Senior Editor in second year
  • Leads the Editorial Board recruitment and selection process
  • Guides the creation of the Call for Papers for each JCTP issue
  • Works with Outreach Editor to get the call out to the JCTP network
  • Book rooms and arrange technical requirements for meetings
  • Assists Senior Editor in reviewing manuscripts and determining potential reviewers
  • Guides at least one submitted manuscript through the review process
  • Facilitates Editorial Board meetings in the absence of the Editor

Associate Editor for Copy Editing:

  • Preview submissions to online journal to ensure that they meet basicformatting requirements and fit within the mission of the journal.
  • Copyedit and proofread the layout of each issue in support of the Editorial Board.
  • Coordinate trainings around copy editing, reviewing, and citation requirements, expectations, and strategies

Associate Editor - Member-at-Large:

  • Guides at least one submitted manuscript through the review process
  • Assists in regular support of the journal along with special projects as deemed necessary by the Editorial Board
  • Encourages prospective authors to submit manuscripts around the scope and mission of the journal
  • Works with Editorial Board to encourage submission of manuscripts from various higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, activist individuals and groups, practitioners, graduate students, junior and senior faculty, and professional associations.
  • Provides continuity in the Board by providing leadership from the past Board

Associate Editor for Outreach

  • Creates and maintains a contacts database of relevant graduate students, activists, faculty, practitioners, professionals, institutions and associations for submissions and reviewers
  • Writes, manages, and distributes the announcements around the pending publication and release date of the next issue of the journal
  • Manages social media outlets including Facebook, Twitter, etc
  • Coordinates and oversees outreach efforts and promotion activity
  • Guides at least one submitted manuscript through the review process
