As Iowa evolved toward grain-intensive agriculture during the past several decades, the use of herbicides and insecticides for weed and insect control increased dramatically. In recent years, however, evidence has accumulated that suggests these widely used agrichemicals may be negatively affecting the environment, especially water resources.
