Abstract

Damage caused by corn rootworms consistently decreases yields throughout the Corn Belt. Chemical treatment of rootworms can reduce damage and increase yields. However, excessive chemical treatment for corn insects poses a threat to the quality of Iowa's soil and water supply. An estimated 98% of the cornon-corn ground in Des Moines and Henry Counties—where this project was located—is chemically treated for corn rootworms.
