Abstract

FULL CIRCLE STORIES: We have parting remarks that look to the future from long-time partner and sustainable ag champion Mike Duffy, who is retiring from Iowa State. We also have a guest column about soil and the legacy that we may (or may not) be leaving for the coming generation. Our research update includes a new look at turning food waste into energy. And we learn lessons from the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon to guide us forward in the years to come. OTHER FEATURES: Distinguished Fellow Fred Kirschenmann ponders the link between wealth and well-being. We’ll show you the 24 new research projects that will begin work this year, and how one five-year study is helping a northwest Iowa farmer keep land in production and improve water quality. Meet two new board members and see a new infographic about prairie conservation strips.
