Part of the National Plant Germplasm System, the North Central Regional Plant Introduction Station (NCRPIS) seeks the acquisition, documentation, conservation, characterization, distribution and enhancement of plant genetic resources (PGR) and their diversity effectively and efficiently; as well as the facilitating utilization of plant genetic diversity in research and in crop improvement.

History
The NCRPIS was founded in 1948 in collaboration between Iowa State University, the USDA-ARS, and the North Central Regional Agricultural Experiment Stations.
