Introduction : Generally yield of soybean has been reckoned in terms of yield components like pods per plant but it is only one aspect of an overall allometry for enumerating the soybean plant. The other components which need attention are the physiological and root characteristics, which remained ignored so far in breeding programs (Adam, 1975). To surpass the yield plateau in soybean, it is imperative that we pay due attention to these traits with a view to increase the photosynthetic efficiency and translocation activities through the genetic improvement of leaf and root characteristics.
