Recently, guests of the Forestry Department from the Peoples Republic of China commented on the employment situation in their country. Forestry positions are immediately available for each of the several thousand graduates of forestry programs. To the Forestry senior in the United States, this might sound like a utopian situation, especially if an element of choice could be added. We must, of course, recognize two major differences between circumstances which prevail in the P.R.C. and those in the U.S. ln addition to a radically different social system, the forest resource situation in the PRC is desperate. Thus, employment opportunities are abundant.
