Abstract
Henry county is located in southeastern Iowa in the second tier of counties north of the Missouri state line and the second tier west of the Illinois state line. It is entirely within the Mississippi loess soil area and by far the largest percent of its soils are derived from loess. The area of the county is 427 square miles or 273,280 acres. Of this 242,642 acres, or 88.7 percent, is in farm land. The total number of farms is 1,718 and the average size is 141.2 acres.
