Abstract

The Ledges landscape is unique to central Iowa because of massive cliffs of sandstone contributing to the substantial relief of the Des Moines River Valley with its deep and narrow tributaries. The scenic landscape of Ledges State Park allows one to observe a host of geologic phenomena. It is the purpose of this study to provide a base of geological information and its interpretations for future use in the redevelopment of Ledges State Park. The study was made possible with funding provided by the Iowa Conservation Commission.
