Abstract
For Iowa farmers, cattle are the second most important source of cash income-exceeded only by hogs. Cash receipts for cattle in 1949 were over $429 million. That's about 21 percent of total Iowa income. But, at the same time, the cost of shipments of cattle and calves into Iowa was $180 million. Cash receipts for sheep and lambs in 1948 were more than $27 million. Farmers laid out $12 million bringing feeder sheep and lambs into Iowa.
