Abstract

Forensic Science has become a buzz word in modern day society. With this, there is a growing interest in the field and an increase in academic programs being developed at the college level. Currently, Iowa State University does not have a set forensic science undergraduate program available for students wishing to pursue a career as a forensic criminalist. Due to this, some students are entering programs that will not adequately prepare them for the career they wish to pursue post-graduation. The document to follow details the construction of such a program utilizing the current American Academy of Forensic Science accreditation standards, model institutions, and the experiences of past students from Iowa State University. Additionally, readers are provided with a brief history of the biological branches of the field and a look into current student perceptions.
