Abstract

The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) has been a successful conservation program in Iowa. The CRP was established to protect highly erodible land by taking it out of crop production for 10 to 15 years. In Iowa there are approximately 1.9 million acres enrolled in the CRP program. Over the course of the next 5 years, more than 1.3 million acres with contracts will expire allowing the land to be converted into crop production or pasture if it is not re-enrolled.
