Abstract

ABSTRACT

One Half for Me / the Other for You combines the genres of poetry and cookbook writing. Both nourish—food the body and poetry the mind and soul. Taken together, the food and poetry of this collection illustrates how we may derive or create meaning from consumption as a purposeful sensory experience. The collection is organized in groupings to reflect the ways we use food to make meaning through themes such as intimacy, meditation, spell, hope, cure, gathering, and naming. All recipes are original unless otherwise noted, in which case they are collaborations written in the tradition of creating community cookbooks. In the tradition of food narratives, most poems in the collection are paired with a recipe as a way to enrich the experience of reading and cooking.
