Abstract

The study finds that China’s aid has a positive relationship with the African GDP by using instrumental variables. While the OLS estimator suggests that more of China’s aid goes to the countries with low GDP, the IV estimator is able to capture a reverse causality that China provides aid to the country with a high GDP.
