Abstract
This presentation outlines some of the work performed during my Masters of Engineering at ISU concerning the synthesis and characterization of Group 14 2D materials, specifically that of 2D silicon nanosheets.
Following the footsteps of graphene, this research focused on the exciting family of 2D materials, and exploring the relationship of their properties with respect to functionalization, structure and composition of the material. This particular presentation focuses on silicane, a silicon analog to graphane, and how it shows promise as a candidate for next generation optoelectronics. Furthermore, its optical properties could be tuned through parameters such as surface functionalization and elemental alloying (SiGe) of the precursor, which further increases its versatility and validity as a next generation material.
