Abstract

It is estimated that 96% of all disabilities are invisible. In this session, participants will learn basic facts regarding the prevalence of invisible disabilities, the struggles faced by people with invisible disabilities, and how invisible disabilities may differ from visible disabilities in the individual’s self-image and how others perceive them. We will focus on best practices for Student Disability Offices and Faculty and Staff Disability Offices in addressing the needs of people with invisible disabilities, with attention paid to how our work with these individuals is similar to and different from our work with individuals in general.
