Abstract

We study the effect of multiple fibers in circuit-switched all-optical WDM networks. A new analytical model, multifiber link-load correlation (MLLC) model, is developed to evaluate the blocking performance of such networks. We show that the MLLC model is accurate for a variety of network topologies by comparing the analytical results with the simulation results. We observed that limited number of fibers is sufficient to provide similar performance as that in full-wavelength-convertible networks. Since multiple fibers in WDM networks have the same effect as the limited wavelength conversion, our analytical model is also applicable in limited-wavelength-convertible networks.
