want to present two examples of a simple but radical idea: that an important way to connect curriculum, professional development, and assessment is for teachers to regularly sit down together and collaboratively assess their students' work. Our examples are from England, which along with Australia and New Zealand has been developing this idea into the basis of its national assessment system, and from Kentucky, which has been developing this idea as part of its fundamental restructuring of education. Here is how it works, first in England then in Kentucky.
