Abstract

The inclusive production of the J/psi resonance is studied with the ATLAS detector in LHC proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV using the J/psi decay mode to two muons. Using the first 2.3 pb-1 of data, two related physics measurements are performed: the double-differential production cross section with respect to the transverse momentum and rapidity of the J/psi, and the fraction of J/psi mesons produced from b hadron decays with respect to the J/psi transverse momentum and rapidity. These two measurements are combined to produce the prompt and non-prompt J/psi cross-sections.
