Abstract

This is a Pilot Study of a Multimedia Instructional Program for Project-Based Teaching ESL Grammar with Embedded Tracking. This program is meant to teach ESL students the concept of passive voice and its use in affirmative sentences. Students learn how to apply passive voice for the description of the geographical location, terrain, and cities of the USA. The J. Sweller's Cognitive Load Theory and R. Mayer's Multimedia Leaning Theory stand behind the instructional design. The advantage of the program is that learners can adjust the mode of instruction to their learning style. This study evaluates the impact of the intervention on students' understanding of how to apply present simple and past simple passive voice forms in the context of describing the USA and contexts other than describing a country. It also collects information about how participants use the program. The collected and analyzed data will be used to improve the instructional design and effectiveness of the program.
