Abstract
Elk Summer chronicles the author's experience as a field technician for an elk demographics study in Colorado's high country near Vail and Beaver Creek. Over the course of a summer she observes elk from above tree line during one-week intervals, often alone. This personal narrative follows the chronology of the author's first field job interwoven with natural and personal history as a meditation on place and purpose.
