Abstract

The Promise of the Wrecking Ball is a coming of age novel chronicling the delayed maturation of the protagonist. Jay is a 31 year old man who is paralyzed by the death of his father, and who has yet to accomplish much with his life, instead relying on his cynical and jaded worldview to shape his beliefs as he navigates the changing landscape of Omaha. As Jay's world begins to shift around him, he realizes he hasn't done anything with his life and must turn his critical eye on to himself in order to move forward.
