Abstract

Immigration in the United States is a salient issue, which over time affects economic, political, and cultural conditions. These effects are often accompanied by turbulent political debates in efforts to direct the policies meant to determine the frequency and composition of migrant inflows. This thesis systematically examines major federal immigration policies within the United States and several of the unique circumstances surrounding four major policy shifts.
