Tomatoes are the most popular vegetable in the home garden. They are available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. Fruit size varies from bite-sized cherry tomatoes to giant beefsteak cultivars. Tomatoes may be round, oblate (fruit are flattened at the top and bottom), or pear-shaped. Tomato fruit may be red, pink, orange, yellow, green, or purple. Tomatoes are low in calories and a good source of vitamin C and antioxidants.
