Abstract

Our national economy has been growing at a rapid pace since the end of the war. Total value of all the goods and services produced in this country in 1956 is about 60 percent greater than it was in 1949. The economy slowed down- in fact dropeed back slightly- in1954. General business went up sharply into 1955. The rise into 1956 from 1955 was less sharp, but still more than normal. Prospects for 1956 are for the total economy to grow, but at a less rapid pace. Much of next year's gain probably will be in the form of higher prices.
