The current uptrend in cattle numbers in the United States continued during 1964, but at a much slower pace. Cattle and calves on U.S. farms and ranches January 1, 1965, totaled 107.2 million head. This was a record number but represented an increase of only .3 percent from the 106.7 million on hand a year earlier.
