Abstract

Hog production trended lower from late in 1963 through most of 1965. With production down, consumption of pork in the U.S. last year averaged only 58.7 pounds per person - the lowest since 1938. And prices reached near-record levels late in the year. In response to the price and profit it gains, and increase in farrowing is underway. Indications are that it will continue for several more months.
