What makes a successful farm business? One description of a successful farm business lists these factors: adequate farm size, a balance between enterprises, use of good adapted practices, planning on reasonable expectations of prices and yields and a plan fitted to the abilities of the operator.
Nearly everyone who farms would like to have a farm of his own. That's true in Iowa or almost any place else. And chances are, if you don't already own your farm, you're working toward that goal.
Farm families need water dozens of times a day- for drinking and cooking;for dish-washing, laundry and cleaning houses; for washing hands and for bathing; and for many other uses.
When will the first bad freeze hit next fall? To many Iowa farmers, that's an important question. An exact answer could help in doing a better job of farm planning.
