Risk and uncertainty about the future combine to form one of the most important problems for farm operators. The good manager considers the risks and tries to make his production and investment decisions more than a hit or miss affair. The factors causing variations in yields, prices and costs can't be predicted with perfect accuracy, but past experience, research results, farm outlook information, etc., can be helpful in making useful estimates.
