Conversation, we read, is coming back into fashion_ Not that people haven 't always talked-and some of them have talked always. But there is a difference between talk and conversation and Ben Jonson must have had it in mind when he wrote long ago: ''Language most shows a man; speak that I may see thee.'' For talk, says the dictionary, is to ''utter words'' while conversation is ''interchange of thought.'' So it might be a good plan to take inventory of one's conversational stock and if necessity, get some new.
