Description

Children’s literature is often used to teach life lessons or morals. The idea for this children’s book stemmed from Dr. Gary Chapman’s research and published works on the Five Love Languages. While Dr. Chapman’s books help to teach adults about loving relationships with their spouses and children, there is no such literature for children to learn the different ways that the people around them give and receive love. This children’s book will use five animals, each representing one of the Love Languages that Dr. Chapman references in his books, to begin to teach children about this important element of life. The hope is that they will be able to recognize themselves in one of the characters and relate to the way that character feels loved by those around them.

Once the theme of the children’s book was established, the story was written and illustrations created. Several methods of illustration were tried out during this process. The final decision was to use ink and colored pencils to create stylized, sketchy illustrations. The final product will be a hardcover book, which will be ordered through the website Blurb for best quality.
