Description

Manufacturers with endless resources and complexity have dominated mountain biking's enduro discipline since its inception. My goal for this project was to make the manufacturing process personal. I designed, modeled, and manufactured a capable enduro hard-tail bicycle that integrated traditional manufacturing techniques and materials with modern technology and geometry. I decided to focus on the enduro discipline of mountain biking since it is the youngest, becoming increasingly popular, with the most amount of development occurring today. My personal goals for this project were to improve my engineering skillset in design, modeling, and structural analysis, while also developing machining and welding experience. Much of the design portion of the project was completed during the Fall 2018 semester, whereas manufacturing took place in Spring 2019. Using custom-built frame jigs and 4130 chromoly, I slowly worked towards a full frame that incorporates low weight, high strength, good stability, and maneuverability.
