On July 20, 1955, a 7-year-old Holstein cow was admitted to the Stange Memorial Clinic at Iowa State College, as a possible "hardware" suspect. The patient was badly bloated at the time of admittance. Rectal examination indicated a marked enlargement of the inguinal lymph nodes and right kidney. The blood count of the animal indicated a marked leucocytosis, 25,680. The differential count revealed 16,900 lymphocytes, 4,700 stabs, 3.800 segments and 200 monocytes.

There have been several recent references to a news release from the Alabama Polytechnic Institute with reference to the development of a combination coccidiosis vaccination procedure for immunizing chickens against cecal and three intestinal types of coccidiosis. There have been a good many inquiries about this method of coccidiosis control and the following report is an explanation of the procedure.

There is always a demand for a new anesthetic agent and technique. This is especially so for those animals that are less tractable and those that do not have accessible veins. One can satisfactorily restrain a horse, a cow, or a dog to administer an anesthetic intravenously. Veins in these animals are easily accessible. The cat is more difficult to restrain and the veins are quite small. The Chinchilla is not difficult to handle but it certainly is extremely difficult to make an intravenous injection in these animals. The ear vein is the most suitable, but most practitioners find it impossible to make a vena puncture.
