On March 4, 1944, a small group of Iowa farmers met for the explicit purpose of organizing the American Cream Horse Association. This new breed, the American Cream Horse, is considered to be the first breed of draft horses originated in America and it is expected to gain much interest.

There is little information concerning the extent of parasitic infestation in cattle, particularly subclinical infestations. Relatively few experimental studies of parasitic infestations in cattle have been made. This is due, in part at least, to the high cost of cattle as experimental animals and the space required for conducting experiments on them. Internal parasites have long been recognized as a hazard in the production of sheep and swine but comparatively few livestock raisers realize that in many instances parasites cause serious losses in cattle. Even when parasites are present in sufficient numbers to produce clinical symptoms, these symptoms are often confused with and ascribed to other conditions. This is particularly true in those areas where parasitism occurs in conjunction with malnutrition.

To me a circus is full of glamour and intrigue and a source of never ending mystery and fascination. Even the people that comprise the circus family are a different and peculiar lot compared to the rest of us humans. Circus people are individualists in the extreme and are worth your study, for they will give you a new and very interesting sidelight on the human race. My service as a circus veterinarian covers a period of 11 years, dating from 1919 to 1930, and was a very enjoyable and interesting experience.

A 6-year-old Holstein cow was admitted to Stange Memorial Clinic on May 7, 1946. The history, according to the owner, was that the animal showed difficult breathing, anorexia and abdominal pain. The owner was an exceptionally good feeder, but the animal had been fed some corn fodder. The local veterinarian made a tentative diagnosis of ruminal impaction. He treated the animal on the first day by giving it 2 pounds of magnesium sulfate orally. The second day the animal was given 1 gallon of mineral oil. The animal showed no relief on the third day and was given 5 mgm. of lentin subcutaneously. No medication was given on the fourth day and the animal was brought to the clinic on the fifth day.
