Abstract

This ensemble was inspired by two images common in Judaica, the tree of life, also important to many other religions and myths, and chai, which is not only the Hebrew word for life, but a symbol in and of itself. The tree of life, called Etz Chaim in Hebrew, is distinct from the Garden of Eden’s tree of knowledge. It is found in Proverbs 3:17-18: “It is a tree of life to all who grasp it, and whoever holds on to it is happy; its ways are ways of pleasantness, and all its paths are peace.”
