Abstract

The annual report for the fiscal year, beginning July 1, 2016 and ending June 30, 2017. This report represents the final annual report in this format, due to the Iowa Legislature defunding the center in the 2017 legislative session.

Contained in this report are letters from Director Mark Rasmussen and editor Mary Adams. The financial report shows statements through April 30, 2017, instead of the complete fiscal year, because of printing deadlines.

The Center began 2017 in a celebatory fashion, marking 30 years since the Leopold Center was created. Events and writings offered reflection and optomism including: the Spencer Award for Sustainable Agriculture, the Shivvers Memorial Lecture, and Ames Reads Leopold.

Other report highlights include: an Eductional Grants report, a summary of Iowa Learning Farms/Water Rocks! activity, profiles of students in the Graduate Program for Sustainable Agriculture.

A listing of newly awarded grants as well as a listing of grants that were completed within this time frame are also featured.
