Description

In a variety of space related applications, a stable platform is essential in supporting and maintaining accurate component alignment and overall system stability. Any structural disturbance such as bending, strain or vibration must be detected and corrected in a timely manner. In the experiment described herein, such disturbances were detected by fiber optic sensors embedded in a composite structure. The outputs were fedback to embedded piezo-electric actuators to actively dampen the disturbances.
