Description

Ceramic processing is being extensively investigated by an international effort. The major goal of current processing research is to achieve ceramics, in particular monolithic ceramics, with low porosities. Low porosity ceramics have been produced in recent years. However, it has been found that these dense ceramics still contain large voids sparsely scattered throughout the bulk of the sample. Because of this dilute distribution, these large voids have a negligible effect on the resultant density of the ceramic. Unfortunately, large voids are known to be failure causing sites in ceramics.
