Description

AC magnetic bridges have been used to detect applied stress in steel and aluminum test specimens. The data show effects of mechanical hysteresis. In the steel test specimens, changes in real and imaginary reluctance occur. In aluminum samples only changes in imaginary reluctance are observed. From these observations it is concluded that AC magnetic bridges can be used for the NDE of stress and could possibly be used to determine residual stress.
