Description

This work addresses ultrasonic scattering by a void that breaks the surface of an elastic half-space. The two-dimensional problem is considered for which a compressional, vertically polarized shear- or Rayleigh-surface wavefield is incident perpendicular to a groove contained in the traction-free surface of an elastic half-space. Numerical results are presented for a V-shaped groove which demonstrate the effects on scattering by a surface-breaking crack that has opened.
