Description

Discontinuities of various types and sizes may be introduced into a material during the manufacturing process and during the service life of the component. Discontinuities generated during the manufacturing process may include stress cracking, slag inclusions, lack of fusion, and gas or shrinkage porosity, whereas typical discontinuities generated during the service life may include fatigue cracks and corrosion [1].
