Cohousing is the sharing of space, resources and lives. An intentional form of living, it provides people with the challenges and benefits of living as a group. This thesis takes a look at the Amana Colonies to learn how a community's character is evident in its built environment. This knowledge was combined with a group of characters in a story to create houses and shared buildings that were unique to the community they were designed for. The result was a sustainable community.
