Abstract
The synthesis of analogs of biologically important compounds has been a very exciting area of organic chemistry. As a consequence of their interesting activities, many synthetic approaches have been developed. Our synthetic approaches toward analogs of glutamic acid, tetracycline, and mitomycin represent a valuable contribution to organic and biological chemistry; The reaction of cyclopropane bromodiester with base in liquid ammonia gave the aminocyclopropane diesters which could be converted to the diacids, analogs of glutamic acid; The tetracyclines have an antibiotic activity and a novel metal ion chelating ability. Several possible chelating analogs of tetracycline have been prepared; The intramolecular cyclization of N-acylated indoles gave cyclized products which have the ring system in the mitomycins. This cyclization can be effected by either radical or organopalladium mediated reactions.
