Description
Internally, Iow a has undergone a massive shift in its population distribution since the beginning of the 20th century. This shift has been characterized by a trend towards urbanization and creation of large metropolitan areas,2 like Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. These movements are masked when figures for the whole state are examined. State population data taken alone do not reveal fundamental changes which have occurred within Iowa.
